Here are the necessary tutorials so you can help us out and get some subtitling work done for Alive in Baghdad!

AiB-Files

You'll need to download this zip file. It contains all the necessary intro videos, music, as well as the AiB project file. Which is where you'll find the subtitles, title cards etc.

A further explanation of the rules of subtitling.

-must leave at least 5 frames between any two subtitles.

-if only one line of text is on a card, you need to put a return above it so it rests on the title safe border.

Subtitling Suggestions

Things which I have found to make subtitling go faster.

Examples:

Bad Subtitles

A:The first subtitle card starts a little too early, having the cards come in before the person begins speaking should be avoided as best as possible.

B:The first card also ends a little too early and the second card should be moved forward. There is a natural break which can be utilized to make the subtitle cuts as natural as possible.

C:the second subtitle is cut very closely to the end of the speech, but it's a full card of dialogue, so it should be given that extra bit of room before the next card starts to allow readers to catch up. Also, since we extended the first card and shortened the beginning of the second card extending into this empty space will make up for a lot of that lost space.

Good Subtitles

A: The first card now comes in 2 frames after the speaker begins speaking, this makes for a natural appearance for the viewer.

B: You can see how the cut takes place over the dead air, this is a more natural place for the viewer to expect a subtitle cut. Again, the second card begins 2 frames after the dialogue begins.

C: Extending the second card into the dead air at the end provides it the necessary time to make up for the time lost at the beginning of the card and it also serves the purpose to allow any one else to catch back up.
